On October 13, 2009, Senator Debbie Stabenow introduced the Medicare Physician Fairness Act of 2009 (S.1776), which would eliminate the 21.5 percent Medicare payment rate reduction for physician services in 2010 and sunset the application of the sustainable growth rate (or SGR) formula.
It was reported that the U.S. Senate scheduled a cloture vote on S.1776 for October 19, 2009 at 5:30 p.m., which would be proceeded by one hour of debate. However, in an article titled Reid Axes Monday Vote, Roll Call reports that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has decided not to go forward with the vote at this time.
According to the Roll Call article, Reid and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell agreed to hold off on the vote while Reid negotiates with Republicans and Democrats that oppose S.1776.
